Cross cultural psychologist michel gelfand has analyzed the differences between countries based on how tight or loose their cultures are. Tight cultures tend to be marked by compliance and rule following. Looser cultures tend to offer more freedoms. The us is over all fairly loose, but there's a lot of variants from place to place. We have 50 states that can each set their own laws. There's a real lack of standardization on terms of practices.
