What Is the Political?

Schmitt: The political is the most intense and extreme antagonism. Every concrete antagonism becomes that much more political, he says. All political action revolves around this distinction, even when the extreme case is far from anyone's mind, Schmitt writes. And the ultimate form of that polemic is combat, which Schmidt does not shrink from defining, in its essence, as killing other men.
