In 1943, neural nets were invented as an idealization of what people thought brains must be doing. The original big idea from 300 years ago was let's write down a math formula that represents something that's going on in the world. And then we have this other surprise of being able to sort of do things with language. It makes me think that maybe language isn't that hard. Maybe we aren't that smart.
