Max Brode's Editorial Interventions on Kafka's Fiction
Max Brode said that you can see a kind of agenda underlying these editorial interventions I think it had to do with his dedication to a kind of saintly image of Kafka. A lot of the things he left out were things that are actually from our contemporary point of view more humanizing in it and that includes the technical imperfections of the text. There's a kind of correspondence between his sanding off the rough edges of the text itself and what he saw as therough edges of Kafka the personYeah yeah did your eight years on this project changed the way you understood and appreciated Kafka's fiction the more finished works yeah I think so I kind of destabilized the status of the morefinished works
