Starbucks wanted baristas to put hashtag race together on select cups of coffee for people they wanted to openly talk about race with. "It was like, there are racial issues in America. We can solve them by talking about them in the Starbucks line," she says. The company should have reached out to nonprofit organizations and community groups that work on these issues day in and day out, he adds.
