The History of the State Police in the United States
After world war one, american industry really boomed in supplying things like food and ships and arms. And with that industrial boom, a northward migration of southerners was stimulated. By this time, by 19 14, the police are largely made up of what later writers would call white ethnics. So there was huge variation in how different police were viewed and trusted or distrusted in their different communities.
