The Role of APOE4 in Age-Related Cognitive Decline

Having one or more copies of APOE4 is the most important single genetic risk factor for age-related dementia, we'll call it. It contributes maybe up to 5% of total risk, your APOE gene type. However, depending on the scenario and the individual, APOE4 may or may not actually be a risk factor. In indigenous populations, non-westernized populations, now we have multiple examples thatAPOE4 is either not a risk factor or may be protective in certain scenarios.
