The Importance of State Communism

Do you remember running into decent numbers of other intellectuals of the time that were earnestly quite open proponents of moving towards state communism? I'm not saying that was common, but I can't give my own perfect example. One small story about my about having a Stalinist head of department. What was ironic was the major group of my colleagues were Trotskyites. So they were communists.
