The Last Kauai Oe

In 1981, only a single nesting pair of Kauai oe's were known to exist. The female was never seen again after a devastating hurricane struck the island in 1982. In 1986, an ornithologist named Jim Jacoby was with a group when they heard the last surviving kawaii oe begin to sing. We cannot save this bird, gone now for more than three decades. All we can do is hear its call.
