The Court of Appeal in the Chad Evans Case
Jury found footballer, Chad Evans, not guilty of rape after a retrial. Vera Baird QC said verdict would deter alleged victims from complaining to the police. She wants you to say that this was an exceptional case and that people shouldn't hesitate to report rape. It is still incredibly difficult for complain and sexual history to be aired in court and for complain and to be cross examined about it. The law makes it very clear. We will continue to sort of if it is raised, we will continue to apply to the court to stop victims complain it's been cross examined.
