The Importance of Being a Consumer in the Church

In America, if we were at least honest about our pantheon of gods, maybe Zeus would be consumerism. We see the church as a product to be consumed, not a people to contribute to. Contrast that with the way Paul says it in 1 Corinthians 12, 7. He says each is given a manifestation of the spirit for the common good. And so another way to say that is everyone in this room is in vocational ministry. Those are just two words that mean called to serve.
