Pushkin, the Russian Aristocrat
Pushkin occupied a rather distinctive place in the Russian social structure. His great grandfather was an African slave who'd come to Russia at the beginning of the 18th century through the Ottoman slave trade. On his father's side, Pushkins liked to claim they went back to the year dot, but they were actually quite modest Muscovite boys traceable to the 15th century.
