Both pilots complained of back injuries after the accident. Medical records indicated that the captain sustained multiple lumbar and thoracic spinal fractures. The cockpit seats in this plane were required to withtend forward loads of nine g, downward loads of six g and upward loads of three g. So what? Yes, it didn't quite meet the standards yet. But all the passenger seats did, but not the pilots.
