The Looney Tunes cartoon is specifically referring to the kind of urban legend of the Gremlin as a creature that would mess with bomber planes, you know, during World War II. It's just another example of how even film is a way of escalating folklore and sort of reframing them around a modern lens. And then obviously Gremlins to the new batch is one of the most bonkers meta films from the 1990s.
