The Importance of Collaboration in Criticism

I have always felt diminished by the sense of losing my objectivity when I get into the mode of scoring points in a debate. So, when I found myself disagreeing with a piece of research, I found it was natural for me to suggest a collaboration. It turned out that delayed regret is mostly wistful, but it can be intense. The next collaboration was much harder and involved Ralph Holtwig, now his successor as director of the Max Blank Institute in Berlin.
