The Difference Between a Priori and a Posteriori Knowledge
analytic truths are true by definition, and synthetic truths are the kind which you have to go out and do some kind of research to find out whether or not they actually are true. A priori knowledge is available without appeal to experience; empirical knowledge is grounded in experience. Kant believes that there is some knowledge which on the one hand is a priori, and yet on the other hand is synthetic.
