The Importance of Paradigm in Postmodernism
The idea that there was some grand postmodern zeitgeist never really helped. In fact, in the period of time when Leotard was talking about the postmodern condition in the 1970s, the postmodern academic paradigm hadn't even took hold at all yet or huge parts of it hadn't. The dominant paradigm in many fields that was hegemonic was a kind of positivism which had some similarities but a lot of differences. It didn't necessarily come after the style that people called modernist or call postmodernism. Did it have a trickle-out effect on later scholarship? I don't think so.
