For more than 50 years, 12 or 15 hours a day, seven days a week, fraser read with steel pen in hand. Only a relatively small amount of lecturing, walking and travel interrupted this lifetime of industry. When i did finally begin to read him, i found much in his unabridged work that was stultifyingly pedantic and stupefyingly boring.
