i know at this point, the dire materialists among the audience are probably still fairlypr xed or frustrated. i will employ the rhetoric of appealing to them along the conceptual lines they are probably more comfortable with by pointing out that schopenhauer is, in a sense, operating from a very sceptical stance here - even though it perhaps might not seem like it. And maybe Schopenhauer's even being more sceptical than the average materialists are being. But we also have to recognize that kant wrote a text critiquing reason and limiting the boundaries of what reason could explain.
