The Illusion of Control
The illusion of control gets much stronger when you're thinking slowly, right? The belief in free will is driving the kind of toxic conservat in our country. I think it's driving toxic maritocracy in our society. Some folks argue for a noble lie approach. But again, it is an open empirical question, right? If you could show me conclusively that, like, if we adopt my approach, i'm going to turn everybody into reivers, then, like, sure, let's not do that, but i think there's pretty good reason to think it actually goes in the other direction.
