Aquinas' view of the passions is far from being Kantian, Kantian. He doesn't see the passions as something that are simply ancillary or even just get rid of. But he also doesn't see them in a way that drive us to act against our better judgment. They are supposed to follow reason and be subordinate to rational judgment. So we wouldn't be completely human without them.
