Monastic traditions spring up in the opening periods of dark ages. Monasteries work because they live at a level of absolute poverty. When you become a monk, you're giving up all property. You own nothing. That's like hesour to do if nobody has anything,. If nobody else pracally exactly. Is the alternative hurting goats from sun up to sun downright? The romans didn't have a monastic tradition either. Do you worry that because we don't have a religious monastic tradition, that the good stuff isn't going to be carried forward?
