The Thyroid Effects of Nuclear Testing
Project plowshare was one where they were doing underground nuclear testing. They wanted to monitor some of the radiation effects in the downstream river systems and tap neighboring towns and cities. The military was taking people's livestock cutting out the thyroid glands so that it wouldn't have to pay farmers for their cattle.
