The Dread of Petrification

The fear of turning into a machine, or feeling like your environment is becoming increasingly machine like, is a very powerful and long standing tradition. This goes back all the way to aristotle who compares animals with automata in their movement. And then you have leibnitz calling the seventeenth century newton's world a massive automaton that transmuted into the medical world. You have the more radical la metre, you have the body as a bare naked object being consumed by an animal spirit. I think i'm doing this because of his because of his learning, and because of some references he makes about the dread of petr ation.
