There are logistical and economic issues that make solar have a real diminishing return on the investment. The sun isn't always shining but it's not just night that presents that problem. Cloudy days, winter when the sun is lower, areas of the world with shorter days mean that power has to be stored so that it can be delivered when there's a high demand.
