Samuel knows their decision is a bad one, but the way they ask the question also gives us some insight into where they're coming from. On the one hand, they say, we want a king to judge us like all the nations. But it's not just that. We're raising them amidst a culture that is often hostile to the best within us and hostile to the teachings of the gospel of jesus christ. So there's that pull. There's also this push away from the past, because things, it's not going to work that way any more.
