The removal of statues has always been part of political protest and political mobilization. American revolutionaries took down statutes during the american revolution. In a moment in which i think people are trying to wrestle with history, the statues become the local pointin for a lot of people. But what's often lost in stories about contemporary pro is how much of this decolonizing project goes back to african thinkers, writers and revolutionaries.
