Aristotelianism was the main rival to Ramaz in this period. In 1586 a textbook had every reference to Ramaz's underlined, enabling the reader to extract just the attacks on Aristotle. Eusto Slipsius made his famous remark that no one will be great for whom Ramaz is great.
