In 1864, Emily began to have eye trouble and feared she was losing her sight. She traveled to Boston for a consultation with an ophthalmologist named Dr. Henry Willard Williams. Historians sort of use the slap dash handwriting she used during this time in her haste to pinpoint the year of certain poems.
