Egypt's New Leader, Gamel Abdel Nasser
Uncle Thune had gotten used to hobnobbing with Egypt's elite over the years, including members of the royal family. The young King Faruk often invited her to perform private concerts at the palace. But in 1952, Faruk's reign came to a swift end in a revolution led by Colonel Gamel Abdel Nasser and an officer named Muhammad Nagib. As the country's government took a decidedly anti-Monica's term, the Egyptian musicians gilled banned Uncle Thune's performances for close to a year.
