Bonds and the Reserves

Bonds are extremely well regulatory treated, they are high quality liquid assets. Banks don't have an haircut on these liquidity holdings. They have no risk weights attached to these bond holdings. Zero percent, zero capital needed to buy those and they yield more than reserves in the first place very often. In money, this is now money, which people would otherwise have spent buying, you know, Christmas trees.
