Is Scales Different From Classical Training?
i still enjoy long tones and playing slowly. The scale routine that i'll give my students at new england conservatory or berkeley is built on the same technical principles as classical training. And so, ah, that has a lot of benefits. You get used moving up the finger board. Your working on shifting and obviously intonation in tone. But practising the scale in the same order doesn't help prepare you for improvisation or other spontaneous a thing. Since so essentially now my scale exercise is completely improvised. It's like i'm trying to take the technical les that i appreciate from the classical pedagogy, but finding ways to combine it with still thinking creatively and spontaneously in
