Explicit Teaching Is a Whole System
explicit teaching involves the gradual release of responsibility from the teacher to the student. It is a whole system, not just that moment when teachers are explaining what they're doing. I often give people an example of when I first started walking with my three-year-old granddaughter - and she wants to get to the other side of the street by herself. And you find it completely normal. But if I say we're going to do the same thing if that child is learning maths or sciences or whatever, and my granddaughter doesn't get bored crossing the street with OPA, with grandpa.
