Russia has seen invasions from its western border for centuries. As catrin the great once famously said, the only way to protect my borders is to expand them. Russia thinks that even if it goes to war with ukraine, i think russia would not come out on top. The west had taken a three plonged strategy since 20 14 - giving military aid to yukaini and bital operation in latria. But none of this has worked to deter russian moves. Why? Because russia thinks that at least in eastern Europe they have an advantage.
