The Animacy Hierarchy
When you have items that fall into the same slot in an animacy hierarchy, funkiness can happen. For example, again, Navajo does word order according to animacy. Elderly Navajo distinguish eight levels. It's a bit of alternation. Many dissertations have been written on this.
