A Tax Collector Is Not Just a Telonos
Tax collectors were especially hated by the Jews of Jesus' time because they were Jews who betrayed their own people. Zacchaeus is a telonos, which is a tax collector. He's an architilones, which means he's a top. And then we hear famously that he was short in stature. Why? Because he wouldn't exist unless God were already loving him. It's that truth that maybe it's encodly known by Zacchaeus but he knows it.
