Swansea University researchers have found maggots produce a range of anti-microbial factors. Lucilius aricartid possesses the genes for 47 different antimicrobial peptides, which it will secrete once it's on the wound. And we also know that some research that we've done here is that maggots contain wound healing abilities as well.
