Why Does Every Single Time I Try to Do an Australian Accent I Sound British?

I have a very deep affection for the ocean and surf. I've always loved the beach and can't imagine really living too far away from it. I also love the forest and would love to be near that. Why does every single time that I try to do an Australian accent, I sound British? It'll depend on the British accent that you're pulling out. You might be using the schwa at the ends of words instead of the ah vowel sound. A good example would be saying my name, p-tah.
