The Paradox of Communication
The use of the imagery of pyramids and the bronze face at the end is specifically calling out to ancient Egyptian imagery that maybe wasn't intentional on Borges part. It also brings up a fundamental paradox of communication once again much like we had in the library of Babel which is that there's no way that Borges can truly tell us what it was like to be in the room with Funez. This is another core problem for Funez, he knows so much that he cannot communicate a simple term because he can't say oh yes you remember that red wine that we had at dinner he cannot go that simple for himself.
