The Differences Between Modern and Middle Chinese
Chinese has about 18 languages as it lists as mutually unintelligible. Each of those languages, if you click on them, has a whole heap of dialects. For instance, they have different sis in tones or other aspects. In mainland China, the largest language overall is Mandarin.
