Montserrati Shirley moved to the United States from Puerto Rico in her early 20s, seeking better employment and financial stability. She fell in love with a pharmaceutical manufacturer named John Shirley and they were married shortly thereafter. In 2001, Montserrati gave birth to their first and only child. The couple filed for divorce in 2011 but she kept the house as part of the settlement. Mark Leonard was put into a coma five months into his relationship after falling into a coma as a result of a rare autoimmune disease. He is now back on his feet; he has been allowed to return home following treatment.
