The Exit Vises

Andrew's parents started to apply for exit vises for the family. Andrew clearly remembers his mother getting out a family photograph in her one pair of scissors and removing her son from the picture for his application. The idea was he could go to live with his grandmother in hong kong, at the time, a british colony. If it was accepted, you would be leaving your family and travelling out of china by yourself. Father had said to me, would you be prepared to leave myself? And without hesitation, i say yes because i heard him saying, they all want to leave, but even one of us could make it out, it's worth it.
