The Importance of the Grandmother in a Child's Mental Health
"I work in a small community based mental health service in a regional town. Our service deals with children and young people and their families who have moderate to severe mental health disorders," she says. "A particular case presented a lot of interesting perspectives that might be of interest to the social work world." The referral came from a church-based non-government organisation which had been working with a 14 year old girl in her family. This was seen as an issue that was really escalating and the family were having difficulty with it obviously the young girl was but also the NGO felt that it was getting a bit beyond their scope.
