Suzanne Vega was born in Santa Monica, but grew up in New York City and Spanish Harlem. The first track on her 1987 album, Solitude Standing, is acapellates; it's a little over two minutes long. Two English dudes calling themselves DNA dropped a dance beat from a soul to soul song without Suzanne Vega's knowledge.
