The History of API Development

API development has been around for as long as networks, at least systems have been communicating over networks. In the very early days, people would do remote procedure calls which would be just sending the name of a function over a socket. And then that was really the mode of writing distributed applications up until around 94, 95, 96 when the web spilled into the mainstream.
