As an aspiring religious Jew, I also think there's something sort of crucial about the spiritual role that Kharii D.M. often fill in Israeli society. The success of the Zionist project depends on Jews bridging their gaps. There's little point to kibbutzgalyot if a significant percentage of said exiles seem determined to misunderstand each other. It's not going to be easy, but it's a challenge that Israel must rise to meet.
