The Puritan Mindset
The Puritan mentality is not really a philosophy or even a religious philosophy, it's a way of looking at the world. A Puritan in my way of thinking is rather like someone who claims to have the key to happiness, but the key doesn't unlock anything. The Puritan in that sense is like a pious gatekeeper who was unable to pass through his own gate. He takes pride in possession of the key. Most Puritans that I've met don't appear to be especially happy people.
