Mutagrafts: A New Approach to Environmental Carcinogenesis
Kenya has one of the highest esophageal cancer rates in Africa. Smoking, drinking hot tea and poor dental hygiene are all risk factors. But we don't yet have enough data to link these with fingerprints left in tumours. Mutagrafts project is working on this by sequencing DNA from lab-grown cells. It's a combination of large-scale genomics and epidemiological studies. We should be able to match more carcinogens with their fingerprints soon.
