Repurchases Are a Bad Idea for Continuing Shareholders
Charlie and I favor repurchases when two conditions are met. We will never make purchases with the intention of sending a decline in Berkshire's price. Continuing shareholders are hurt unless shares are purchased below intrinsic value. IBM has used debt wisely, made value adding acquisitions almost exclusively for cash.
