When Lyft started in LA, it was considered rude when you would open up the back door and sit in the back seat. That's when the ride share service was first made. So if you do it, get a Lyft or an Uber in LA or San Francisco, it's not uncommon for you to jump in the front seat because that's where the whole concept was born out.
